US President Donald Trump has announced an operation aimed at speeding up the development and distribution of a vaccine for the corona virus he called "Operation Speed Super".
The president announced the development during an event at the White House Rose Garden, saying: "We would love to see results by the end of this year. The implication of the operation is to make it big and fast." The president also announced the appointment of Monsef Salawi, head of the vaccine division of one of the country's largest drug companies alongside General Gustav Perna, to head the project.
This is a combination of the private sector and government efforts to achieve a predictable scientific result, the nature of the project and its inclusion led the president to mention another major scientific project carried out by the United States. The president referred to the US effort to develop nuclear weapons during World War II, saying: "This is an operation our country has not seen like it since the Manhattan Project."
While Slavi is expected to address the scientific and development aspects of the operation, General Prana is expected to engage in logistics and allocate resources to the various stages of the operation. Trump announced that he would work for U.S. support for all the world's leading vaccine developments to make the vaccine available to Americans from the time it was developed.
The president also promised that special resources would be diverted under the "protective industry" legislation, which allows the president to order various industries to convert their production lines for the state's needs. US Secretary of Defense Mark Asper, who also attended the meeting, responded by saying, "We will provide what is needed on time, we will do the job well Mr. President."
