The Spanish ACS and Ferrovial are part of two of the four consortiums that compete for projects by the State of Maryland (USA) to improve traffic on the highways that surround the city of Washington, one of the points with the highest congestion in United States.

The project has launched a first phase with actions valued at 2,000 million euros, and aims to become an antidote to the crisis: "As we plan the recovery, these critical infrastructure projects are key to rebuilding our economy and keeping the chain active supply, "said Governor Larry Hogan . The proposals were delivered before May 20 and the short list of candidates is expected in July.

Other Spanish companies, such as FCC, Acciona, Globalvía ​​and Roadis, had shown interest in the project in the initial stages of the competition.

The contract, as reported by El Español , includes the construction, maintenance and operation of different sections of the I-495 and I-270 highways . The winner, who will also have to build a new American Legion bridge, as a passage between the states of Maryland and Virginia, will have an operating term of 50 years .

Among the four rivals, in addition to ACS and Ferrovial, are the Australian Transurban and the Italian Itinera . The former, which has partnered with the Macquarie Infrastructure, is presumed to have a certain advantage for its experience in Maryland.

Other Spanish companies, such as FCC, Acciona, Globalvía ​​and Roadis, had shown interest in the project in the initial phases of the contest launched by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

The group chaired by Florentino Pérez, which has its main revenue barn in North America, competes for the contract through ACS Infrastructure Development and Dragados . Parsons Transportation, Jacobs Engineering and HDR Engineering would be in charge of the design.

For its part, Ferrovial has aligned its Cintra concessionaire with the Meridiam fund , with which it already shares projects in Texas, Carolina and Virginia, and with Johh Laing . Ferrovial Construcción would be in charge of the works and Aecom of the design.
