(CNN) - Both the Senate and the New York State Assembly passed bills on Monday that would repeal the New York State Civil Rights Act, Act 50-A.

New York State Civil Rights Law 50-A does not allow the disciplinary records of individual police, fire, or correctional officers to be released without your written consent.

The bill was approved by the Assembly by a 101-43 vote, while it was approved by the Senate by a 40-22 vote.

The bills will go to the desk of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, where he is expected to sign them.

New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said Monday: "Across the country, there is a shared feeling of anger and frustration at the death of another unarmed black man at the hands of law enforcement," he said. President Heastie. "We must provide greater transparency and accountability to the public so that people believe that the system is fair and equitable."
