In the Schwerin state parliament, a sexism debate flared up in plenary after a sexism saying. SPD politician Nadine Julitz gave the AfD a "lesson".

  • At a state parliament session in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, an AfD man comments on the dress of SPD MP Nadine Julitz when she goes to the lectern.
  • The SPD woman's answer does not seem to suit the AfD colleagues.
  • A sexism debate has flared up in Schwerin.

Schwerin - A sexism debate has flared up in the state parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The focus is on the question of when a compliment not a compliment more, but sexism .

"Well, the dress is pretty tight," commented an AfD MP at a state parliament session in May when SPD MP Nadine Julitz went to the lectern. Julitz repeated the sentence on the desk - weeks later, a conflict began to arise in the Schwerin state parliament: Another AfD man considers Julitz's reaction to be inappropriate. Due to gender and feminism , compliments are no longer possible, said Thomas de Jesus Fernandes. The SPD magazine reports  forward . What follows is a speech that the SPD politician describes on Twitter as a " lesson for the AfD ".

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Nadine Julitz (SPD) faces up to a sexism debate after AfD comments

Julitz begins her speech to colleagues Schneider and de Jesus Fernandes “explaining the difference between a compliment and sexism”. The moment the sentence about the tight dress fell, "everyone who understood it looked me in the ass," Julitz uses drastic words in her speech. It was no longer a compliment, it was sexism. Julitz reaps spontaneous applause - the speech she shares on the social networks goes viral.

I reported about this incident in the last week of the session. I was told today that I received a nice compliment. I had no other choice today than to contribute to the clarification with a personal statement. pic.twitter.com/1awYmpCLk1

Twitter users , for example, respond in more than two hundred letters . A lot of the comments are compliments - but not only. "Where should the compliment be? It's good that you mentioned it again, ”writes one user, others write“ Strong! ”,“ Acted just right ”. "Thank you, also on behalf of my daughter," writes one user.

Where should the compliment be? ‍♀️ It's
good that you mentioned it again.

Thank you very much, also on behalf of my daughter.

But there is also criticism . A user asks whether the state parliament is also concerned with content and not just with personal feelings. Another would like to see the dress we are talking about. Another writes, The AfD men made the woman small and did not notice it. She was so excited.

Yes, poor woman, so nervous. They make the woman small and don't even notice. ‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️

And Julitz was probably excited: "The reaction was completely spontaneous and also with a portion of anger in my stomach." Julitz said in an interview about the incident in the forward that she got a lot of encouragement . Nevertheless, it is almost uncomfortable for her that the debate is now sparking off from her experience. She is praised for her “courage, which I find a little shameful. It's not really about my butt. I am just a representative example of what is unfortunately a daily reality in Germany. ”

Schwerin: Sexism debate in the state parliament - "That was an insolence"

Julitz also receives support from other politicians. The leader of the left-wing group, Simone Oldenburg, explains to the Nordkurier that sexism should not be tolerated. "Sexism has lost something in parliament, at work, in everyday life and nowhere." And only those affected decided whether "they take a comment as a compliment or whether it is a poisoned compliment or even a sexual harassment for them." Christel White, non-attached MP, remembers the AfD man's comment: "That was an outrage."

The AfD does not stand for a progressive image of women, Julitz is annoyed. "The AfD strengthens and promotes the existing image of women and families by some in any case, especially by suggesting with criticism like I have expressed that men would be assumed to be something, although they actually only want to be nice."

After the state parliament session, De Jesus Fernandes commented on a Facebook profile picture of Julitz with a drooling smiley face and the words: “But that's a nice outfit”. The AfD man has since deleted the post.

A sexism debate is currently blazing in Bavaria. The reason is a beer tent hit in which rape is apparently played down *.
