The "Two Millions and Three Strikes Union United Front" and "Secondary Student Action Preparation Platform", which gathered 30 trade unions, held a "referendum" on Saturday (20th) to decide whether to strike against the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" and to vote As a result, both motions failed to pass due to insufficient valid votes.

Xinhua News Agency announced on Saturday (20th) that the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" "Draft Notes" stated that Hong Kong residents should take an oath to support the Basic Law and allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region when they assume public office. Yan Wuzhou, chairman of the new civil servants’ union, said that of the 1,191 civil servants who participated in the vote, about 99% were worried about the legislation of the “Hong Kong version of the National Security Law”, 98% thought it was not necessary to take an oath, and 86% thought it was necessary to strike against the national security law. 36% of new civil service union members vote

Yan Wuzhou bluntly said that many people think that civil servants always value their own rights and interests, but the referendum results reflect that, compared to salary treatment (85% opposed to the civil servant salary freeze proposal, about 80% hope that the union will initiate industrial actions or strikes on the frozen salary), civil servants I am more concerned about the impact of the National Security Law on Hong Kong, and I am worried that the Hong Kong version of the National Law Law will have an impact on Hong Kong.

Yan Wuzhou said that about 120 civil servants newly joined the union today, accounting for about 4% of the union members. He was grateful that the members were in the "eyes" in the past year and the government has repeatedly pressed under the pressure, and still insisted on participating in the referendum. The turnout rate was better than expected, accounting for about 36% of the union.

The "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" stipulates that when taking up public office, it is necessary to swear to support the Basic Law

The "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" draft published by Xinhua News Agency mentioned that Hong Kong people must sign documents to confirm or swear to support the "Basic Law" of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and loyalty to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China when they stand for election or take office.

Yan Wuzhou believes that the original intention of civil servants is to serve the public, but it is reflected in the referendum. Most civil servants believe that there is no need to make a mandatory oath. As to whether the Legislative Council affects the morale of civil servants, he bluntly explained that it is the responsibility of the government to remove the concerns of civil servants. He hopes that the government will respond positively to the concerns of colleagues and respect the right of civil servants to express their views. He will communicate with the council and cross-union platforms to discuss whether to take the next step.
