Democratic White House hopeful Joe Biden with his chosen running mate Kamala Harris are shown together for the first time in Delaware, marking a turning point in the campaign., in which Harris seeks to go down in history as America's first female vice president.
On Tuesday Biden - who leads the polls - ended the expectation by announcing that Harris, a black senator who represents California, will be her second on board in the contest against President Donald Trump, a decision described as historic.
Before Harris, two women ran for vice presidency, Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 and Sarah Palin in 2008 , but never before has there been a major-party candidate who was a black or South Asian person like Harris.
"Kamala Harris is the daughter of two proud immigrants, her mother from India and her father from Jamaica, who raised her to take action," Biden said on Twitter Wednesday.
At 55, Harris is in a prime position for the 2024 campaign as the 77-year-old Biden has hinted that if he wins he might not run for a second term.

The appearance of this Wednesday is the first appearance of both politicians, who even for the announcement adhered to the virtual format that has marked this pandemic campaign, in the country with the most confirmed cases from around the world.
Harris released a video on Wednesday criticizing the actions of US President Donald Trump during the pandemic, and assures that she was raised to "take action."
"As Joe says, we are in a battle for the soul of this nation," Harris is heard saying in the nearly two-minute video that he posted on his Twitter account.
The video begins with the conversation in which Biden invites the senator to be his second on board, which made her the first African American and the first American of Indian origin is to aspire to the Vice Presidency of the country.

The 55-year-old senator of a Jamaican father was California's attorney general before winning her seat in the Upper House of the US Congress in 2016.
Harris makes history by being chosen by Biden as the first woman of color to run for the US Vice Presidency, a candidacy that will ultimately be initialed at the Democratic National Convention in the middle of this month.
Last December, Harris announced that he was withdrawing from the presidential race in which he was running against Biden and a dozen other Democratic candidates.
