Lisbeth Flores, 23, was found dead and with signs of torture in Matamoros. The Prosecutor's Office assures that it already knows the motive for the violent crime.

The Attorney General's Office of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas has reported the arrest of a suspect for the death of Lizbeth Flores, the young Texan tortured and murdered in Matamoros. The arrested man, identified as Braulio, was captured this Tuesday at his home in the Molinos del Rey subdivision. The possible motive for the crime was a robbery, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

The body of Flores, the mother of a 4-year-old girl and a 3-year-old baby, was found on August 11 in Matamoros with signs of brutal violence: no teeth and part of the scalp, according to investigators.

The young woman had crossed the border between Mexico and the United States, through the Veterans International Bridge, to visit her boyfriend. He told his mother, Maria Rubio, that he would be at her home in Brownsville, Texas, that same night. But she never returned.

A day after her call, Rubio called the Brownsville Police Department and reported her missing.

"Losing a child is like having your heart ripped out," his mother said in an interview with Telemundo 40, a Telemundo affiliate.

“I feel very sad for what they did to my daughter. How they left her, that's what hurts me, what my daughter went through there at that time, that's what hurts me, "Rubio lamented," I want everyone who participated in the death of my daughter to pay.

Rubio does not have enough resources to take charge of the repatriation of her remains: “I don't have a way to bring her here. I want to identify that it is her. For me, my daughter is alive and I and all my family want to see her and know how she died ”.

The consular offices of Mexico in the United States normally only cover expenses when the death has occurred in the United States, but "since it is a humanitarian case, we are going to help the lady as far as we can," said the consul, Juan Carlos Cue Vega.
