Fifteen people killed and 75 wounded in a double attack in the southern Philippines
The attack on the island of Jolo, which involved a suicide bomber, was the worst in the region since January 2019. No organization has claimed responsibility, but Abu Sayyaf, who has sworn allegiance to ISIS, is active in the region.

At least 15 people were killed today (Monday) and 75 injured in two explosions on an island in the southern Philippines. Among those killed in the attack, which included a suicide bomber, were civilians and members of the security forces. The bombings in the central city on the island of Jolo, from the Islamic State terrorist organization Abu Sayyaf, which swore allegiance to ISIS, were an hour apart. The extremist organization has in recent years increased its use of suicide bombers.
No organization has claimed responsibility for the largest attack in the southern Philippines since January 2019. Back then, a double suicide bombing at a church in Jolo killed more than 20 people and injured more than 100.
The army said the first blast occurred in the afternoon, when an improvised explosive device on a motorcycle was detonated near two army trucks parked, killing soldiers and civilians. With the arrival of police and army forces at the scene, a suicide bomber tried to break through the checkpoint and activated the explosive belt. She and several other people were killed.
