The state is expected to return today (Wednesday) until 15:00 its answer to the High Court of the mayors, who demanded that the conditions of the worshipers be compared to the conditions of the demonstrators.

As you may recall, last Wednesday the High Court heard a petition filed by the mayors of Bat Yam, Or Yehuda and Kiryat Shmona through Adv. Ilan Bombach.

The petition reads, among other things: "Just as prayers are restricted outside, so are the demonstrations. A comparison between the freedom of worship and the right to demonstrate, which are to the same degree according to the ruling."

It is also written: "This petition is filed on the eve of the Tishrei holidays. "Unreasonable, disproportionate and unjustified about these prayers in public, and if these remain in force, fundamental constitutional rights of many individuals will be violated."

In the petition, the mayors wonder why they are disadvantaged compared to all those who want to demonstrate and protest in open areas in Israel.

"This petition is here given to hundreds of thousands of other Israelis, who do not find peace of mind due to the feeling of severe discrimination, the feeling of blatant discrimination, which is based on a 'structured' preference of protesters in the open, over worshipers in the open, in recent months ... That is, the Honorable Court is requested to order the respondents to compare the restrictions imposed on the exercise of the right to demonstrate to those imposed on the exercise of freedom of religion and worship. "

The state replied in a preliminary answer that there was no real possibility of holding a hearing on the issue: "without exhausting its claims," and added that a meeting chaired by the Attorney General and with the participation of the highest professional echelons is expected to be discussed later in the evening.
