The American Minister of Justice violently attacked Wednesday the
“secular militancy”
, responsible according to him for many social evils in the United States.
Forty days before the presidential election where religion will play a central role, Bill Barr, one of the pillars of Donald Trump's government, participated in a breakfast of prayers with Catholics.
Religion is a factor of
"restraint"
, of
"freedom"
which has a role to play in public life, the minister, himself Catholic, said on this occasion.
But, he lamented, over the last 50 years,
"traditional morality has eroded and supporters of secularism have often succeeded in eliminating religion from our schools and from the public square
.
"
For him, this withdrawal from religion has resulted in
"a sharp increase in urban violence, drug use and the breakdown of families"
.
“It is never too late to go to God's vineyard
,” he concluded, using a biblical parable.

President Trump is banking on voters on the religious right to win a second term.
To woo them, he must appoint a new judge to the Supreme Court of the United States on Saturday and a magistrate with traditional Christian values, Amy Coney Barrett, is a favorite.
If the president's choice is confirmed in the Senate, this will firmly anchor the institution to the right, which decides on subjects dear to religious voters, such as abortion or gay rights.
