Finance Minister Israel Katz today (Tuesday) instructed his ministry to formulate a plan for increased assistance in the coming months for the self-employed and the unemployed.

The reason for the decision is the prolongation of the closure, the expected severe harm to the self-employed and businesses and the departure of many workers to the IDF.

The plan will include additional advances and additional assistance to these populations in ways that will be formulated later.

Additional monthly grants in the amount of thousands of shekels will be given to low-wage unemployed people who have been in the Knesset for a long time, while those who have recently been sent to the Knesset will also enjoy the benefits - up to a ceiling that is set.

The guiding principle will be that if the closure ends before the end of the period of entitlement to the additional grant, as determined, the employee will be able to return to his place of work.

The eligibility grant will be paid to him as a salary supplement while he is working.

The program comes in addition to the regular grants provided within the economic safety net, such as the incentives for employers to retain workers in the employment situation.

Also, unemployment benefits are paid to every unemployed person by the middle of next year, and the grants to negative income tax recipients have already started to be paid.

On behalf of Minister Katz, it was stated: "He intends to present the plan to the Prime Minister in the coming days and bring it to a speedy approval in the government and the Knesset to assist the unemployed, the self-employed and business owners during this difficult period, due to the closure."

Mutual guarantee and national responsibility obliges us all not to abandon the employees and the self-employed to their fate and help them as much as is required - and that is what I intend to do.

"He clarified that the most important thing for him is to allow small businesses and businesses that do not receive an audience to return to work immediately after Sukkot and that he intends to continue to fight for this position in discussions and expected decisions on the issue at the next Corona Cabinet meeting."
