The counting continues two days after US citizens cast their votes for the future president.

Challenger Joe Biden and US President Donald Trump go head-to-head.

While Democrat Biden has already secured 253 voters according to current forecasts, Republican Trump is currently at 214.

270 voters are required for a majority - Biden is still missing the votes of 17 voters, Trump of 56. The two candidates are so close together in several of the as yet undecided states that in the end a few thousand votes could decide the victory.

The overview:

Pennsylvania (20 voters)

: In Pennsylvania, candidates can win most of the votes not yet given.

For Biden, they would be enough to win the choice.

So far, Trump has led the counts, but his lead is shrinking.

After evaluating 92 percent of the votes, Trump's lead decreased from around ten percentage points to less than two percentage points.

Specifically, Trump currently has 50.3 percent of the vote, with Biden it is 48.5 percent.

This is still a difference of more than a hundred thousand voters.

The Secretary of State, Kathy Boockvar, responsible for conducting the election, gave CNN hope that Pennsylvania's result could be determined on Thursday (local time).

With that it would be announced on the German night.

Pennsylvania is six hours behind Germany.

Georgia (16 voters)

: Biden is catching up in Georgia too.

There are now 99 percent of the votes, but the race is extremely close.

Trump currently has 49.5 percent of the vote and Biden 49.3 percent.

Most recently, around 60,000 votes were still to be counted.

"I think we can all agree that an accurate and fair count is far more important than a quick count," said Gabriel Sterling, an electoral officer.

He didn't want to commit to when the end result will be available.

Nevada (6 voters)

: Joe Biden has a narrow lead in Nevada, which he was able to expand recently.

After a long standstill in reporting the count, several thousand votes were added on Thursday.

The Democrat is now almost 12,000 votes ahead of US President Donald Trump, which corresponds to one percentage point.

About 87 percent of the votes were counted.

According to Biden's campaign manager, the count in the US state will not be clear until Friday at the earliest.

Arizona (11 electors):

The AP news agency, which is actually very cautious about results, had already attributed Biden to Arizona on election night.

The Republicans still hope to overturn the result.

After counting 88 percent of the votes, Biden leads with 50.5 percent ahead of Trump with 48.1 percent.

North Carolina (15 voters):

There is still no decision in the east coast state either.

With a count of an estimated 94 percent, Trump was 50.1 percent ahead of Biden (48.7 percent).

Trump has already declared his victory in North Carolina as he was ahead of Biden with 77,000 votes at the time.

However, more than a hundred thousand postal votes were not counted.

In this group in particular, Biden does disproportionately well.

In North Carolina, absentee votes are still included in the result, which will arrive by November 12th.

However, the prerequisite is that they have been stamped by November 3rd.

Alaska (3 voters):

Although Alaska is not a large key state, there is still no reliable result for the presidential election.

After counting half of the votes, Trump is clearly ahead of Biden with 62.1 to 33.5 percent of the vote (read more about the count in Alaska here).
