US President Donald Trump does not want to recognize the victory of his challenger Joe Biden in the US election.

"The simple fact is that this election is far from over," said the Republican incumbent.

Previously, US media had unanimously declared Biden as the winner of the presidential election.

Biden is "wrongly" portraying himself as the winner and is supported by his "media allies".

"You don't want the truth to come out."

Trump's statements initially have no legal impact, but they mark an escalation of the political dispute over the election.

Trump has already taken legal action in several states against the results or the further counting of votes cast.

He presents himself as a victim of systematic electoral fraud without providing substantiated evidence to support his claims.

He has already announced that he will defend himself against defeat with a whole series of lawsuits up to the Supreme Court.

In the USA it is common for the presidential election to be decided on the basis of forecasts from large media houses - usually on election night.

The official results sometimes come much later.

Because of the corona pandemic, millions of Americans had voted by letter this year, which is why the counting of the votes took longer.

The Republican was able to secure the key state of Florida early on, which Biden would have needed for a quick victory.

Since Wednesday, the positive signs for Biden, who was confident of victory, increased.

In particularly hotly contested countries, he continued to catch up in the course of the counts.

Trump had already declared himself the winner on election night in the White House during the ongoing count and announced that he would bring his claim to the Supreme Court of the United States.

He then repeatedly made it clear that he continued to see himself as a legitimate winner.

It comes as no surprise that Trump does not recognize his opponent's victory.

Even before the election, Trump had left it open whether he would accept the election result and did not want to guarantee a peaceful transfer of power.

In addition, he had repeatedly claimed that his democratic adversary could only win if there were "massive electoral fraud".

There is no evidence of this.
