LIVE - Joe Biden on Saturday pledged to be the president who unites America. Donald Trump, whose term will end on January 20, has not, at this stage, acknowledged his defeat.

- Joe Biden, declared the winner of the American presidential election, promised Saturday to be the president who will unify America.

The Democrat called on Americans to stop treating their "opponents as enemies".

"I pledge to be a president who unites and not who divides," he said during a fiery speech in his home town of Delaware.

- The former vice-president of Barack Obama has crossed the “magic” threshold of 270 electors.

During his speech, he had no words for his opponent.

- Donald Trump, whose term will end on January 20, has not, at this stage, acknowledged his defeat.

Nothing obliges the Republican president to do so formally, but admitting defeat is tradition in Washington.

At the time of the announcement of the results, he was at his golf club near Washington.

In a post pinned as "misleading" by Twitter, he continued to claim a victory that was allegedly stolen from him.

"I largely won this election," he hammered in capital letters.

- Elected at 77, Joe Biden will be the oldest president in United States history at the start of his term.

- Her running mate Kamala Harris will make history by becoming the first woman to become vice-president.

All dressed in white, in tribute to the suffragists, she said on Saturday that she would not be "the last".

The California senator paid tribute to the "generations of women" of all origins who "paved the way" for her.

- The date of the transfer of power is written into the Constitution: January 20.

Until then, the states will certify their results, and the 538 voters will meet in December to formally appoint the president.
