The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress made a decision on the qualifications of members of the Legislative Council, referring to members who promote or support Hong Kong independence, refuse to recognize the state's ownership and exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong, seek foreign or foreign forces to interfere in the affairs of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, or otherwise endanger national security, etc. Acts that do not meet the statutory requirements and conditions for supporting the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Once confirmed in accordance with the law, they will immediately lose their qualifications as members of the Legislative Council.
The Hong Kong government subsequently announced that the Civic Party Yang Yueqiao, Guo Rongkeng, Guo Jiaqi and the accountant Liang Jichang immediately lost their qualifications as members of the Legislative Council.
The DAB expressed its full support for the decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, believing that the Basic Law can be implemented in a more comprehensive and accurate manner, better safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, and maintaining Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability; Chen Xiaofeng, a representative of the Hong Kong National People's Congress, said In response to the request of the Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress made a constitutional, legal, and reasonable decision. It is a clear political ethic, an embodiment of the maintenance of "one country, two systems", and a demonstration of justice. It will help the Legislative Council continue to perform normal operations and Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability.
Chen Xiaofeng, deputy to the National People's Congress of the Hong Kong District, said that the decision made by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in response to the request of the Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region is constitutional, legal and reasonable, and is a manifestation of clear political ethics and the maintenance of "one country, two systems."

The DAB also stated that Guo Rongkeng, Yang Yueqiao, Guo Jiaqi, and Liang Jichang had lobbied or supported the United States to legislate against Hong Kong, interfered in China’s internal affairs and Hong Kong affairs, and seriously harmed the interests of the country and Hong Kong. They emphasized that their behavior did not meet the relevant requirements and was not qualified to serve. Members of the Legislative Council, therefore, I support the government's immediate use of the power granted by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to revoke the qualifications of the above four members.
The DAB believes that the decision made by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to exclude people who endanger the interests of the country and Hong Kong as members of the Legislative Council will help safeguard national security and interests, maintain Hong Kong’s social stability, and ensure that "one country, two systems" always develops in the right direction.
The Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong stated that the past behaviors of the democratic members in the Legislative Council made the public extremely angry.
According to the DAB, a comprehensive survey of different opinions shows that 70% of the respondents are dissatisfied with the extension of the legislature, and 90% of the respondents believe that those who have been disqualified from running for election should not continue to be members of the Legislative Council. This decision will help the Legislative Council to restore order and help the Hong Kong Government effectively implement various economic recovery and livelihood reform policies. It is in line with the overall interests of Hong Kong and the wishes of the general public.
