When monuments can no longer be saved, the excitement is often great.

District master builder Andreas Hainz wants to prevent this with an initiative that is being observed throughout Bavaria.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- The district wants to break new ground in order to permanently preserve the monuments between Isar and Loisach.

District master builder Andreas Hainz has developed the project "Monument - Cultural Identity Preserve, Protect, Live", which wants to make the owners more responsible.

It is a pilot project: the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments (BLfD) will recommend the approach to all Bavarian districts for imitation.

Hainz assumes that monuments are more than old walls.

“Monuments and historical buildings are our cultural and historical heritage, they shape the face and identity of the district.

They make a significant contribution to securing the regional identity and maintain the attractiveness of tourism, ”says a concept paper that our newspaper has received.

The expert regrets that there are too many monuments that are apparently no longer valued, for which there no longer seems to be contemporary use, which is exposed to the weather and decay.

Communities should report threatened monuments

The first steps have already been taken.

The mayors of all municipalities (18) and cities (3) in the district are currently being asked to name up to two monuments threatened by decay.

The lower monument protection authority inspects the reported objects and then prepares an urgency list in cooperation with the BLfD, based on the current expiry status and the value.

"Afterwards, all owners will be invited through the media and by personal letter to take part in the kick-off event for the project," says the concept paper.

This is the beginning of a process that should enable the preservation of many historical sites.

The plan is for well-known speakers to sharpen the awareness of monuments at the kick-off event.

In addition, the numerous financing and funding options are shown.

It is also possible that accompanying events take place in the course of the following year, at which experts give manual instructions for personal efforts to preserve the monument.

The special and attractive thing about this concept is that the authority is breaking new ground.

It is a matter of intensively involving the builders and working out a solution together without the authorities immediately resorting to the legal remedies available to them.

It's about the cultural identity of the district

The aim is to secure up to five properties annually together with the owners - even if it is initially only through emergency measures.

It would also be nice for Hainz to consolidate the project through “lighthouse objects” that encourage other monument owners.

And the initiator of “Denk 'mal” has another promise: “By recording other objects threatened by decay, it will be ensured in the future that the cultural heritage of the district can also be experienced by our descendants.

The project is still at the very beginning.

Mayor Hubert Oberhauser recently named two monuments to Bad Tölz in a public meeting in the Eglingen municipal council, namely the Kolomann chapel in the Eglingen district of Reichertshausen (the owner is the diocese) and the water house in Egling (the owner is the Endlhauser Group water association ).

The chapel is officially classified as a monument and dates from 1517. It is in poor condition.

The same applies to the old Wasserhaus am Moosbach in Egling, very close to the roundabout of the bypass road.

According to Oberhauser, the house once served as a well for the Endlhauser Group before a new well was built in the Geilertshausen forest.
