Mexico Authorizes Emergency Use of Pfizer's COVID-19 Vaccine

Mexico is expected to receive 250,000 doses of the vaccine from the US pharmaceutical company, enough for about 125,000 people. Mexican authorities assure that frontline health workers will receive it first.


The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Copefris) approved this Friday the emergency use of the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine against the coronavirus.

The Mexican Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, said on Friday that Mexico became

the fourth country to do so, behind the United Kingdom, Britain, Canada and Bahrain.

The country is expected to receive 250,000 doses of the vaccine, enough for 125,000 people.

According to López-Gatel, front-line health workers will receive the vaccines first.

Vaccination is expected to begin next week.
