Following the corona and the economic crisis, the Ministry of Housing announced that it was unable to comply with the original roof agreement with Ashdod.

Only 50% of the housing units will be allocated to those entitled to a price per occupant, and the rest to the free market.

Mayor Dr. Yehiel Lasri: "We will examine the means to change the decision, but in order not to delay the construction of the housing units, we will simultaneously promote their marketing in this format."

The roof agreement was signed 3 years ago for the construction of about 30,000 housing units in 16 housing complexes.

According to the agreement, at least 80% were planned for marketing in the lottery route for those entitled to a price per occupant.

The director of the umbrella agreement, headed by Eyal Davidovich, was established with the aim of promoting the many projects, from the planning stage, through accompanying the tenders for the marketing of the land to the execution stage.

In order to increase the number of young couples who can win affordable housing, it was decided in the Ashdod municipality that all housing units will be offered in a price-per-tenant lottery.

The Ministry of Housing welcomed the initiative, but now it has become clear that the state has decided to back away from its original promise and stipulated that only 50% of the apartments will be sold on a price-per-tenant route.

The Ashdod municipality protested to the Ministry of Housing for non-compliance with the agreement, but the ministry's representatives explained that in light of the situation, the subsidy for discounts for those entitled was significantly reduced.

"Every effort will be made to promote the projects approved by the mayor on the fastest schedule, for the benefit of the young people of Ashdod," said Eyal Davidovich, head of the Ashdod umbrella agreement.
