New Year's Eve has not been as quiet as this year for a long time.

The curfew in Bavaria alone ensures this.

The police will check more at the turn of the year.

The fire department warns against setting off old fireworks.

  • On New Year's Eve, the police in Tölzer Land will also increasingly check whether the curfew is being observed

  • In the past two weeks, a number of curfew and contact restriction violations have been punished

  • The fire brigade warns against igniting old firecrackers from the previous year and those bought abroad on New Year's Eve.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- New Year's Eve will definitely be different this year than in all previous years.

The corona pandemic is of course responsible for this.

Above all, however, the contact restrictions, the curfew between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., which also applies at the turn of the year, and the ban on firecrackers will ensure that New Year's Eve will be much quieter than usual.

The police will definitely check more tonight.

Police spokeswoman: "We are definitely prepared"

However, this is not unusual, says Carolin Englert, press spokeswoman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South, which is also responsible for the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district.

More and more colleagues are on duty on New Year's Eve.

“We are definitely prepared and have reinforced all shifts,” says Englert.

On the one hand, it is checked whether the curfew is being observed.

"Anyone who is outside after 9 p.m. and being checked will hopefully have a valid reason for doing so," says Englert.

Incidentally, that doesn't include the way home from a New Year's Eve party.

In any case, these are only possible on a very small scale.

A maximum of five people (children under 14 do not count) from a maximum of two households are allowed to meet.

Anyone who is out after 9 p.m. needs a good reason - the way home from a party is not one

It can be expensive for those who are out after 9 p.m. and have no good reason to do so.

The standard rate for a violation of the curfew is 500 euros.

In fact, the police have carried out 202 checks in the district since the latest Infection Protection Ordinance came into force on December 16.

31 violations of the curfew have been reported, says Englert.

It was quiet over Christmas.

“Almost everyone stuck to the rules,” praised Englert.

273 controls in public spaces since December 16

The police do not only check the streets at night.

It was also checked whether the daytime exit and contact restrictions were observed.

“Many forget that you also need a valid reason to leave the apartment during the day.

The reasons are wider than at night, ”says Englert.

For example, it also includes sport and exercise in the fresh air.

There were 273 controls between Icking and Jachenau in the public space in the past two weeks.

36 violations were reported.

There were 53 controls in the private room.

Four violations were punished here.

Do the police just come into the apartment?

Do the police actually follow up on every indication that corona regulations may be violated in a private apartment?

Yes, says Englert.

On site, however, the next steps will be decided "with a sense of proportion".

That means: the police don't just rush into the apartment just because a neighbor says that there will be a large party there.

The inviolability of one's own home is a fundamental right.

“What people do in their apartment is their private matter,” says Englert.

However, park dozens of cars in the driveway or if there are other specific indications of a bigger party, "then of course we will take a look," says Englert.

This is not only done in the case of corona violations, but also if nocturnal disturbances are reported.

"When colleagues arrive on site and everything is quiet, you don't necessarily have to ring people's doorbells at 3 o'clock in the morning."

"Our wish is that everyone sticks together again"

Speaking of quiet.

The police spokeswoman does not believe that it will be an absolutely silent New Year's Eve.

Because despite the ban on the sale of firecrackers, one or the other definitely got fireworks that he could also burn on his private property.

Actually.

Englert appeals to the common sense of the population to exercise restraint: “Leave the old firecrackers in the cellar.

Our wish is that everyone will stick together again so that we can really celebrate New Year's Eve again next year. "

Fire brigade warns of old firecrackers

The fire brigade does not think it is a good idea to use fireworks left over from last year.

“With old firecrackers, it is not clear how they behave,” says Stefan Kießkalt, press spokesman for the district fire inspection.

“Are they still igniting or not?

Are there any delayed reactions?

Here in particular there is a risk that people are already in the area of impact of the firecracker and are injured in the process. ”There is also the risk of an immediate ignition“ if the ignition material has already escaped on the fuse ”.

In the past few weeks there has been a real rush for the firecrackers that were sold in Poland.

"Some of them have no certification," says Kießkalt.

Here, too, it is unclear, for example, “what explosive power they have.

There is an increased risk of injuries, and on the other hand, reacting too quickly can result in fires or damage from the force of the gun. "
