The average gross salary per employee job of Israeli workers last October was NIS 11,624.

This is an increase of 11.1% compared to last year, when the salary was NIS 10,647 (these are current prices - without the effects of inflation).

A month earlier, in September, the average wage was NIS 11,372 - a decrease compared to August when the average wage was NIS 11,559.

In each of the years 2019-2016 in January-October there was an average increase of about 3.3% compared to the previous year, while in 2020 the average increase in January-October compared to 2019 is 6.8%.

In October 2020, the average wage per employee post at current prices increased by 2.2% compared with September 2020.

Data on wage and employment indices are based on monthly reports by employers to the National Insurance Institute.

Reports of workers in the IDF and workers receiving unemployment benefits from the National Insurance Institute are not included in the wage and employment indices. The outbreak of the corona epidemic in March 2020 affected both the reduction in the volume of work in the economy in terms of number of employees and the average wage per employee.

Wage and employment data include the number of workers employed in that month and the wages paid to them.

The calculation of the average wage does not refer to the number of days in the month in which the employee was employed.

Therefore, due to the first closure, the average wage in April increased by 15.2%, compared to the previous month, and due to the second closure, the average wage increased in October 2020 by 2.2%.

This is because the workers who were taken out of the labor force, or fired from their jobs, are usually workers whose wages were lower than average.

Decrease in the number of jobs

The number of employee jobs for Israeli workers in October decreased by 16.2% compared to last year.

In the hospitality and food services industry, the number of employee jobs decreased by 67.9%, in the arts, entertainment and leisure industry there was a decrease of 60.7%, and in the trade industry there was a decrease of 26.9%.

Last October, the largest sector was the non-financial corporations sector, with 1.942 million employee jobs, representing 62.7% of all employee jobs in the economy.

The average salary per employee job in this sector was NIS 12,663.

There were 672.3 thousand employee jobs in the government sector, which constitutes one-fifth (21.7%) of all employee jobs in the economy.

The average salary in this sector was NIS 10,995.

In private non-profit organizations, the share of employee jobs out of all jobs in the economy was 7.2% with 224.3 thousand jobs, while the average salary was NIS 6,239.

Government companies accounted for 8% of employee jobs and the average wage was NIS 18,799.

The cooperatives accounted for 2.7% with an average salary of NIS 9,444.

The average salary per employee job of high-tech workers was NIS 24,055, a decrease of 1.1% compared to September - an increase of 5.8% compared to last year, when the salary was NIS 22,726.

At the top of the salary table is the research and development industry with an average salary of NIS 28,154.

Then there is the programming and consulting industry in the field of computers and services with NIS 25,271.

In October 2020, the number of employee jobs in the high-tech field was 320.1 thousand - a decrease of 1.4% compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Statistics announced yesterday that the unemployment rate in the labor force was 4.8% in the first half of December, ie 190.7 thousand people.

This is compared to 5.4% in the second half of the previous month.

In addition it was noted that out of 6,499,600 million people aged 15 and over, 61% are in the labor force, i.e. 3,967,000.

The labor force rate of employed persons who were temporarily absent from work all week due to virus-related causes plus the unemployed was 10.4%, ie 412.4 thousand in the second half of November 2020, compared with 12% in the second half of November 2020, ie 477.6 thousand workers.
