Hagit Moshe, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, was elected tonight (Tuesday) to head the Jewish House, ahead of the elections to the 24th Knesset.
Moshe competed with the party's director general, Nir Orbach, and behind the scenes received the support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and chairman of the Religious Zionist Party, Bezalel Smutrich.
Winning the position increases the chances of the unification of the Jewish home with Smutrich and distances a similar unification with Jewish power.
Her victory also hit right-wing chairman Naftali Bennett who supported Auerbach for the post
.
Almost 90% of the voters of the Jewish Home Center participated in the election process, a number that is considered very high compared to similar procedures in previous years.
Behind the scenes, the party's internal elections were a battle between Bennett and Netanyahu and Smutrich.
Bennett supported Orbach's candidacy out of a desire to unite with him in exchange for one high spot in the top ten, and through him to fill the vacuum created with Smutrich's announcement that he would run on a separate list in the upcoming elections.
On the other hand, Netanyahu acted behind the scenes for the victory of Hagit Moshe, and so did Smutrich.
The two are interested in building a unified religious list without Bennett.
If Smutrich and Moshe unite, Netanyahu is guaranteed another 5-4 seats for the bloc he heads.
