European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reiterated her rejection of the criticism leveled at the European Union that it has delayed concluding pre-order agreements for vaccines against the emerging coronavirus.
AFP quoted Der Leyen as saying in an article published in the German newspaper Frankfurter Yegmeni Zeitung that the difficulties in supplying vaccines against Covid 19 in Europe are related to the fact that there is a global shortage of important components that go into the vaccine manufacturing process.
Der Layen added that the European Commission is working without delay to develop, license and produce vaccines against mutated copies that may appear in the future, noting that we must prepare from today for a scenario that the virus can no longer be sufficiently destroyed with the current vaccines due to the mutated versions.
Von der Leyen's words come at a time of increasing criticism in Germany and Europe about the slow pace of the vaccination campaigns, which began immediately after Christmas, at a time when people appear exhausted due to the restrictions imposed for months.
