A German diplomatic source sent a warning to Iran yesterday, after the Islamic Republic announced its intention to restrict the access of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to its nuclear facilities, and even advised Tehran to refrain from such a move.

"It would be completely unacceptable for Iran to interfere with IAEA oversight," the diplomat said.

"We call on Iran to refrain from this move and are in close contact with our partners, including the United States," he added.

On Monday, the Iranian representative in front of the Atomic Organization in Vienna tweeted that his country intends to restrict the activities of inspectors starting Thursday next week.

"The decision of the Iranian parliament will be timely, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has been notified, in order to ensure a smooth transition to the new regulatory path when the time comes. After all, gestures of goodwill lead to more such gestures," the Iranian representative wrote.

This is another step up in the verbal duel between Iran and the West, with talk in the background of a possible return to the improved nuclear deal.

The country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is highly suspicious of US intentions under President Joe Biden's new administration.

Recently, there have been some well-intentioned statements by senior US officials, including Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who said last week that "the first thing that matters is that Iran returns to its commitments. They are far from it. .
