Update from March 14, 11:58 p.m.:

On Sunday, not all votes could be counted.

In one constituency, the data are still incomplete, which is why there is still no preliminary final result.

How the election turned out, however, has been very clear since the first forecast.

For the Greens, the question now is who they will form a coalition with - and whether in the end it will even be enough for a two-party alliance with the SPD.

For that matter, the final votes can still make the difference.

Update from March 14, 10:45 p.m.:

According to the latest projections by ARD and ZDF, the Greens (32.7 percent) are the clear winners in Baden-Württemberg.

The CDU comes to around 24 percent.

It is followed by the SPD with around eleven percent and the FDP and AfD with around ten percent.

Update from March 14th, 9:10 p.m.:

Is there a new edition of the former green-red coalition in Baden-Württemberg?

According to the latest projections by ARD (8:53 p.m.), this might be possible.

The Greens (32.4 percent) with 53 seats and the SPD (11.6 percent) with 19 MPs would have a wafer-thin majority of 72 of the total of 143 seats in the new Baden-Württemberg state parliament.

The CDU (23.6 percent) would occupy 38 seats as the incumbent coalition partner.

The FDP (10.4 percent), which is still hoping for a traffic light coalition, would have 17 and the AfD (10.1 percent) 16 seats.

According to the projection of the Wahlen / ZDF research group from 9:01 p.m., it is not enough for green-red.

The coalition comes with a different calculation to 77 seats, but, according to ZDF extrapolation, would need 78 MPs for an absolute majority for a majority.

Update from March 14th, 8:08 pm:

These are the current figures for the state elections in Baden-Württemberg: The Greens emerge as the strongest party in the election with around 32 percent.

The second strongest force, but with significant losses, is the CDU with around 23 percent.

It is followed by the SPD with around eleven percent and the AfD and FDP with around ten percent.

Update from March 14th, 7.30 p.m.:

According to the latest projections by ZDF, the Greens come to 31.4 percent, the ARD sees the party even at 32.3 percent.

The CDU, on the other hand, has around 23.5 percent, the SPD and FDP around eleven percent.

The AfD is according to ZDF at 11.9 percent, according to ARD at 10.5 percent.

State election in Baden-Württemberg 2021: projections and results - Greens win clearly, CDU crashes

Update from March 14, 6:50 p.m.:

The Greens have clearly won the state election in Baden-Württemberg.

According to the first projections by ARD and ZDF, they achieved their best result in the country to date with around 31 percent.

The previous coalition partner, the CDU, performed worse than ever before (around 23 percent).

The SPD also slipped to a historic low (around eleven percent).

After his election victory in Baden-Württemberg, Prime Minister Kretschmann wants to talk to all democratic parties about forming a government.

He understands the result as an

"order to continue serving our country as prime minister,"

said the 72-year-old.

"I accept that with great gratitude and humility." He did not say whether he would like to continue the green-black coalition or form a possible traffic light alliance with the SPD and FDP.

Update from March 14, 6:25 p.m.:

The CDU suffered a bitter defeat in the state elections in Baden-Württemberg.

According to initial projections and forecasts by ARD and ZDF, the CDU is around 23 percent, which would be the

worst result ever

in its former stronghold of Baden-Württemberg.

Top candidate Susanne Eisenmann wants to take responsibility for this.

"Of course I'll take the responsibility, that's a matter of course for me," she told the

Phoenix

news channel

.

It was a "disappointing and disastrous election result," said the Minister of Education.

Here we keep you up to date on the projections and results of the state elections in 2021.

19.6 percent

in the Baden-Württemberg election

.

All eligible voters are included in this result - including those who have applied for postal votes, as the regional election officer Cornelia Nesch announced.

In the 2016 election, a voter turnout of 35.5 percent was determined at the same time.

The first projections and results of the federal state election BW 2021 are expected around 6 p.m., the provisional official final result, however, not until late Sunday evening.

Update from March 14th, 2:50 p.m.:

At the

The incumbent Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann cast his vote in the 2021 state election in Baden-Württemberg.

The Green politician chose Sigmaringen in his hometown.

Kretschmann wants to defend his government office against Culture Minister Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) in the state elections in the southwest.

And he could succeed: In the last polls, the Greens were at historic highs of 32 to 34 percent and thus with a clear gap of up to eleven percentage points ahead of the current coalition partner CDU.

Update from March 14th, 1 p.m .:

Today, March 14th, the first super election Sunday in 2021 started.

In addition to the state elections in Baden-Württemberg, other elections are taking place in Germany today: The state parliament is also elected in Rhineland-Palatinate and the local elections are taking place in Hesse.

State election 2021 in Baden-Württemberg: Significantly more postal votes

Update from March 14th, 10.30 a.m.:

Numerous people cast their votes by postal vote in the state elections in Baden-Württemberg.

At least that's what is expected.

In many polling stations in the country, significantly more postal votes have been received in the past few days than in non-Corona times.

According to the

dpa,

it is assumed that every second person entitled to vote would rather have filled out their voting slip at home than at the polling station on election Sunday.

Due to the corona pandemic, there are strict hygiene regulations in the polling stations.

Update from March 14, 8:40 a.m.:

The polling stations are open.

In Baden-Württemberg, eligible voters can vote on Sunday who will sit in the state parliament for them in the future.

The polling stations close at 6 p.m.

From then on the counting of the ballot papers can begin.

First report from March 14th, 8 a.m .:

Stuttgart - On March 14th the voters cast their vote in the southwest of the republic.

On the same day, it will largely be clear who will be among the election winners.

You can expect the following process from the projections to the result on the evening of the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2021.

At this point we will inform you of all the new figures in a news ticker on March 14th.

When will the result of the state elections in Baden-Württemberg be counted?

The polling stations close at 6 p.m.

As soon as the last voters have cast their ballots, the counting can begin.

Postal voting envelopes also remain closed until 6 p.m.

How reliable are the projections for the state election result?

On the evening of the election there will be the usual forecasts again at 6 p.m.

These numbers usually give a good indication of how the election result will turn out later.

However, the forecasts are not yet based on the counting of the ballot papers.

Instead, the numbers come from voter surveys at the polling stations.

In such “exit polls”, voters are asked by pollsters to anonymously report their voting decision again.

After 6 p.m. it usually doesn't take long before the first extrapolation is available.

For this purpose, in addition to the data from the voter surveys, the first real counts are also included.

In the course of the election evening, the projections for the state elections in Baden-Württemberg naturally come closer and closer to the final result.

The projections often remain very stable, but it has often happened that the trend has clearly reversed in the course of the election evening.

When will there be an official final result from Baden-Württemberg?

The preliminary official final result for the whole of Baden-Württemberg should be available on the evening of the state elections in 2021.

In the following days, however, a review must follow before the official final result is available.

First, the district electoral committees meet at constituency level to determine the result there.

Only then does the state election committee determine who has been elected to the state parliament.

In Baden-Württemberg, this calculation is not quite as easy to understand as in many other federal states.

On March 14th it will be known almost exactly what percentage values the parties have achieved.

How many MPs the state parliament will have is not yet said.

State elections in Baden-Württemberg: Results are based on just one cross

Strictly speaking, the election results in the constituencies first decide which direct candidates will safely move into the state parliament.

The rule here is that the voters can only put a single cross and thus always vote for the associated party in addition to the direct candidate.

If all the directly elected MPs have now been determined, the state parliament will be filled with further MPs until the majorities between the parties also correspond to the election result at state level.

In principle, it is possible that a party collects the most votes in all of Baden-Württemberg, but wins almost no direct mandates.

In such a case, the overhang mandates ensure that it still becomes the strongest force in the state parliament.
