Authorities in Jordan this evening (Saturday) arrested the former Crown Prince and brother of Jordan's King Abdullah II, Hamza bin Hussein, the Washington Post reported tonight.

According to information obtained by the newspaper, the palace in Amman claims that the prince's arrest, accompanied by the arrests of at least 20 other senior officials, is part of thwarting an extensive coup plan in which another royal family member and other tribal leaders and commanders in the Jordanian army participated.

Prince Hamza, the eldest son of King Hussein and his American wife Nur, is being held at the Amman Beer Palace under heavy guard.
