The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Western countries have politicized the emergency landing of a Ryanair plane on their territory.
The RIA Novosti news agency quoted the ministry as saying today that Western countries politicized the situation and made hasty conclusions, while the Belarusian authorities acted on the incident in a manner that fully complies with international rules.
The Ministry called for the need to look at the incident from a safety and aviation safety point of view, which the Belarusian side has guaranteed.
For his part, Deputy Commander of the Air Force of Belarus Andrei Gurtsevich announced that a MiG-29 fighter of the Belarusian Air Force was sent to escort the (Ryanair) plane, indicating that the fighter escorted the passenger plane after learning of the possibility of an explosive device on board and said that “the Belarusian air force is always ready To provide assistance to any aircraft in case of disaster or force majeure.
For his part, a source in the Aviation Directorate of the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications said that a committee has been formed to investigate the situation surrounding the aforementioned forced landing, indicating that in the near future the results of the investigation will be announced and the circumstances surrounding the landing operation will be revealed.
Yesterday, the European Union accused the Belarusian authorities of forcing a passenger plane belonging to the Irish (Ryanair) company to land at Minsk airport in order to arrest a journalist who was on board.
