(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 26 - The Con Il Sud Foundation, which for years has been committed to supporting the enhancement of assets confiscated in the southern regions, has decided in agreement with the TerzoSettore Forum to set up the "Permanent Working Group on the issue of assets confiscated from the mafia "to follow continuously and with the necessary in-depth analysis the issues relating to the asset management and enhancement system.

The group will be coordinated by the project manager Luigi Lochi and will carry out in particular the ongoing debate and the initiatives that various subjects, institutional and non-institutional, undertake in the field of revision of the system for the enhancement and management of the good confiscated to the mafia. Already with a document dated July 2016 (https://www.fondazioneconilsud.it/news/beni-confiscatiuna-proposta-di-revisione/), the Con il Sud Foundation, together with the Third Sector Forum and some foundations of banking origin , has called for a reform of the current mechanisms for managing and valorising assets, which are inadequate in relation to the complexity of the phenomenon and the now enormous size of confiscations.

We believe that the extraordinary intuition and the great mobilization promoted by Libera 25 years ago, thanks to which Italy has equipped itself with the most advanced legislation on the subject, is as current as ever. The confiscation of assets constitutes a hard blow to the mafias and affirms the primacy of the State: their utilization for social purposes returns them to the Community, opposing, in the territories, the consent of the criminal organizations.

For this reason, we believe it is necessary that the assignments of goods to third sector entities are accompanied by the availability of adequate financial resources that allow their restructuring and management, and to this end it would be right and appropriate to use the confiscated economic resources, currently destined for the Single Justice Fund.

The Foundation With the South, in the context of the enhancement of common assets (cultural, environmental, uncultivated lands), for ten years gives particular emphasis to the enhancement of the beneficiaries. To date, thanks to the projects supported, 105 have been valued with a disbursement of 21 million euros: 64 buildings (apartments, villas, palaces, warehouses, etc.), 37 agricultural land and 1 registered movable property (watercraft). The regions most affected are Campania, Sicily, Puglia, Calabria. The Foundation's constant monitoring work on the progress of the valorisation projects returns a broadly positive picture of the work carried out by the third sector entities which contributes decisively to the fight for legality and social justice.
