The United States crossed the 50% mark of the adult population fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, the White House announced based on data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"50% of all American adults are already fully vaccinated!" Cyrus Shahpar, official in charge of data monitoring at the White House, announced on his Twitter account.

In addition, more than 60% of adults, that is, about

160 million people

, have already received at least one dose of one of the three vaccines authorized in the country.

The vaccination campaign is advancing in the United States.

CDC data also shows that 49.5% of Americans of all ages - roughly 164 million people - have at least one dose of vaccine.

The United States opened vaccination for

anyone over the age of 16 in mid-April

and approved the Pfizer dose for anyone over the age of 12 nearly two weeks ago.

This means that these people received the required two injections of the Moderna or Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, or the single required dose of the Johnson & Johnson immunizer.

After a slow start in late 2020,

the mass vaccination campaign was accelerated

by the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden, who took office in late January.

However, the pace of this immunization campaign slowed between mid-April and this month, when it was necessary to reach the most skeptical or indifferent.

More recently, however, the number of daily vaccinations has

started to increase slightly

.

Pfizer's antiviral vaccination was opened to teens ages 12 and older about two weeks ago, and many incentive programs have been set up for people who have been vaccinated, such as giveaways.

Biden has set a goal for 70% of adults in the United States to have received at least one dose

before the July 4 national holiday

.
