Peter Tschentscher sees Hamburg at a disadvantage when it comes to awarding the corona vaccines. The SPD mayor says his city has not received enough cans of 44,500 so far. He demands a quick equalization.

Before the federal and state vaccination summit this Thursday, the distribution of the vaccines is causing displeasure.

Hamburg's First Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) criticizes that more than 40,000 vaccine doses have so far been insufficiently delivered to his country.

"The vaccine distribution in Germany is unfair," Tschentscher told SPIEGEL.

“The disadvantage increases every week.

There must now be a compensation quickly. "

The SPD politician refers to the vaccination dashboard of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG).

Accordingly, almost 1.1 million vaccine doses had been delivered to his state by May 25.

That is 44,500 less than the state should receive according to its population share.

In no other country had so little vaccine been delivered as in Hamburg.

If there is no compensation from the BMG, the first vaccinations could no longer be given at the Hamburg vaccination center in June, warns Tschentscher.

The federal promise to make a vaccination offer to all citizens by the end of the summer must also apply to Hamburg.

Tschentscher, however, is skeptical.

"The delivery volume of over 90 million vaccine doses announced by the federal government by the end of June will probably be clearly missed," he says.

"Around 51 million cans have been delivered so far."

Already now there are hardly any vaccination appointments because there is a lack of vaccines.

"Nevertheless, new population groups are always called for vaccination and the prioritization is revoked," criticized Tschentscher.

"Many people are now hoping for a quick vaccination and are bitterly disappointed."

Hamburg also demands: In the future there must be an even distribution of the vaccine according to the proportion of the population.

Vaccine that is not called up by the practices should be made available to the vaccination centers in the relevant countries.

On Thursday, the federal and state governments want to discuss how to proceed with corona vaccinations at their vaccination summit.

Among other things, the end of the prioritization on June 7th, the digital vaccination certificate and the vaccinations of children and adolescents should be at stake.
