Contrary to the color-coding trend of books we’ve seen on social media too many times this year, the new trend in home libraries touches on what’s inside: ideas, inspiration and respite from the hectic world.

Home libraries have become, for many, an island of comfort and a reflection of the beauty of humanity's immense creativity and acquired knowledge.

This is the time of the sober and conscious age, which provides an opportunity to examine not only what books are on our shelves and what they look like, but also to examine how the home library makes us feel.

The home library, reflects the personal taste of the homeowners and therefore includes not only books and writings but also works of art and decorative details that testify to their taste.

As such it is making a comeback with a new generation of designs offering combinations of materials, textures and shapes that challenge the traditional hive.

Functional furniture for a central design element

Some people choose to bind several functions in the library.

In addition to organizing books, the library is also a kind of buffet and storage space for the home theater system, as such the home library becomes a multi-purpose system.

The huge diversity and innovations in the field of libraries have led to the fact that today every designer has at least one library design in his resume.

A library design has become a hallmark of quality, on which every designer wants to put his hand.

Formerly defined as heavy wood furniture with massive shelves, the bookcase is now losing weight and appearing in a new image - the traditional use of wood has expanded with alternatives such as aluminum, iron, brass, stainless steel, plastic, glass, bamboo, marble and even ropes, making the library look nonchalant In Well Being.

Rich materialism brings with it design innovation and after a certain period in which we have become accustomed to seeing "square" bookcases, standard and functional, bookcases get a more dynamic look.

So alongside their functional value, they join the overall design as a contemporary and stylish element.

As in other design arenas, library designers are now turning to creative play, which includes nostalgia alongside modernization, and decoration alongside art.

When most of them have in common is modularity and internal mobility, which allows for optimization and personalization.

How to choose a library?

It is important to define in advance what its main functional purpose is and its location in the home. A library in the living room may be different from a library in the nursery. It is important to take into account variables such as room size, amount of light, ceiling height and the like. It is of course important to match the design of the library to the design style in order to maintain a design language.

"There are two leading schools in the design of libraries. One of them advocates giving as much as possible a stage to the library itself so that it becomes a real piece, the other gives a stage to accessories that should shine," explains Orly Gohar Ben Harush, home designer of Elita Living. The goal is not to overload the library and the right dose is to use about 60 percent of the shelves and leave the remaining 40 percent empty. This way we get a balanced and airy look. The books themselves are important to place in different compositions so that we do not get the look of a bookstore. Some have to stand, some lie down and you can also sort them by color. "

Who gets the stage - the library or the items inside?

Tips for designing the library and home reading corner:

Most libraries are permanent and often not cheap either, so the most important thing is to define in advance what we are going to store in it: books?

decorations?

Will it also include space for the TV screen?

And the like.

According to these variables, we will determine the structure of the library (including the depths, cell sizes and other parameters) and based on these we will plan the final composition, "explains interior designer Keren Niv Toledano.

It is possible to design a wall-to-wall niche or a standing library. Cm, so as not to be too deep and give a stage worthy of books.

It is important to take into account the height of the books as well - the height of reading books is completely different from art and design books (which are significantly higher).

"When planning a library in a study, it is important that the depth is greater because it also stores binders and albums," the designer adds.

It is important to define in advance what the library will contain.

The recommended ratio for filling the shelves is 60:40.

The lighting should be placed 20-30 cm from the outer plane of the library in order to focus on the books. This is not lighting that is intended for reading but it does allow us to flip through the books. It is highly recommended to plan an intimate reading corner with a luxurious and comfortable armchair, standing lamp, pedestal For the feet, a rug and a small coffee

table.- And what about color? According to Toledano there is no one right answer: "It very much depends on the style and color palette you have chosen for the house.

If it is a very large library (in the living room space for example) I would work with wood shades, shades of black and brown or combinations of wood with iron because these are combinations that produce a powerful and warm look.

"When it comes to a library in dedicated rooms such as study rooms or children's rooms, the preference is to design it in different colors, sometimes by the way as an integral part of the closet and distinguish it by touches of wood or cool handles."
