France has one thing, but Germany doesn't: Armin Laschet (CDU) is blocking a 130 speed limit on motorways.

Why?

Because there are electric cars.

Berlin - Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (CDU) has clearly rejected calls for a speed limit on German motorways.

With a view to the progress in the introduction of e-cars, a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour is nonsensical, the party leader told the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).

“Why should an electric vehicle that does not cause CO2 emissions be allowed to drive faster than 130?

That is illogical, ”argued Laschet.

In doing so, the Union positioned itself against a widespread demand. Above all, the German environmental aid is pushing for a quick implementation, because Tempo 130 on motorways like in France or Switzerland can allegedly save tons of CO-2 emissions. According to a ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, the federal government must tighten its climate targets by the end of next year. The SPD and the Greens are therefore flirting with the introduction of a speed limit - in contrast to Laschet and the Union.
