"Like after a hibernation"

“It's like after a deep hibernation. New energies have to be mobilized in order to pick up where we left off before Corona, ”says Hanka Schmitt-Luginger, who has been chairwoman of the senior citizens' council in Gilching since 2003. Gilching's senior advisory councils have long since forged ideas and plans for the time after Corona.

Gilching

- "All with the proviso that we don't get another lockdown," says Schmitt-Luginger.

“If the incidence figures continue to rise and exceed 50, everything has to be canceled again.

Then we'll start all over again. "

Fortunately, the election of the board of directors in March worked out (we reported), albeit six months late.

Johann Schraufnagl, Kurt Rode and Michael Wolfsschlag joined Hanka Schmitt-Luginger and his deputy Bernhard Feilzer.

"Since we have three new members, we are in the process of getting to know each other, distributing our tasks and finding a constructive cooperation," said Schmitt-Luginger.

Some actions are planned for autumn. The most complex project is the second Bavarian dementia week of the Ministry of Health and Care, which takes place from August 24th to September 16th in the Gilching Town Hall in cooperation with the Seniors' Advisory Board. As reported, the program includes exhibitions and a discussion event on the subject of “Dementia and Family”. In addition, the film "The Shine of Memory" will be shown in the Gilching film station. “But I am particularly pleased that we will start again on Wednesday, September 1st with our traditional and beloved regulars' table. Tables are reserved for us in Café Reis from 3 p.m. ”, says Schmitt-Luginger. "In the last few months I have been asked very often when it will finally go on again."

The program “Look around”, initiated two years ago under the auspices of the AWO, will continue.

“My idea was to visit single people and people living alone, to pass the time a little, play cards or chess or talk about a good book.

We had just started, there was lockdown and everything had to be canceled again. "

A celebration for the 20th birthday of the Gilching Seniors' Council is also being prepared.

“The anniversary is actually this year because we were founded in 2001.

But because of Corona, we have now postponed the festivities to 2022, ”explains Schmitt-Luginger.

The general aim of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Board is still to contribute to "that people are allowed to grow old in a self-determined way and with dignity".

And there is a great desire to be more involved in politics on issues that affect the elderly.

“We have 5200 senior citizens in Gilching.

It would be worthwhile to lend them an ear and respond to their needs more than before. "

And how long does the mother of two grown children and grandma of five grandchildren want to continue?

“I am 79 now and will work for our seniors by the end of my term in a good five years.

Then it's over.

I am not running for another term of office. "
