An unusual incident occurred this morning (Thursday) on Line 63 of the Dan Company after a passenger who got on a bus on Bograshov Street in Tel Aviv, threatened the driver and smashed the bus windows with a hammer.
This case joins the steep rise in the wave of recent driver attacks.
According to the drivers' organization from the Histadrut, which monitors the issue through a comprehensive annual report, in 2020 drivers experienced 3,644 cases of physical violence. In practice, the number is much higher as only 47% of cases were reported.
At the same time, 40% of drivers reported experiencing physical violence during their work during 2020, 19% of them reported three cases and more.
The Organization of Bus Drivers in Israel from the Histadrut said in response to the violence against bus drivers that "only recognizing bus drivers as public employees can save their lives and the lives of passengers and cause drivers to sit behind bars. Law enforcement agencies must act accordingly. This snowball must be stopped immediately. "It attacks drivers early in the morning and in the evening. Terrorism against drivers must be stopped. The day a driver kills on the road is closer than ever."
