A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

A tsunami alert was issued and there have been deaths and damage in Haiti after the earthquake, Haitian Civil Protection told CNN.

A magnitude 5.2 aftershock occurred shortly thereafter, 17 km north-northwest of Chantal, Haiti, according to the USGS. It had a depth of 10 kilometers.
