Port-au-Prince-Sana

The death toll from the earthquake that hit southwest Haiti yesterday, with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale, has risen to 304.

AFP quoted civil protection official, Jerry Chandler, as saying that 304 people have died in the earthquake so far, with 160 bodies counted in the south, 42 in the Nebe region, one hundred in the Grand Anse region, and two bodies in the northwest, in addition to hundreds of wounded and missing. To the collapse of churches, shops, homes and buildings, hundreds were trapped under their rubble.

Chandler added that three hospitalization centers in Pestille, Coray and Roseau had reached their maximum capacity.

The previous toll indicated that 227 people were killed in yesterday's earthquake, which occurred 8 km from the town of Petite-True-de-Neps and at a depth of 10 km.

The poorest country in the American continent is still remembering the devastating earthquake that occurred on January 12, 2010 and destroyed the capital and many cities, and that day more than 200,000 people were killed and more than 300 others were injured, as well as the displacement of one and a half million residents.
