Kaufbeuren - The aid organization Humedica from Kaufbeuren is sending a three-person emergency team to the Caribbean state of Haiti, which was hit by a massive earthquake.
Saturday's earthquake claimed more than 1,400 lives, around 7,000 people were injured and the numbers continue to rise.
More than 1,400 people died in the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti.
The situation worsened due to the tropical storm "Grace", which then reached the state.
“There are many injured.
But psychologically, the strain on the people in Haiti is enormous, ”explains Humedica managing director Johannes Peter.
After the severe earthquake, many people had only just lost everything - the next catastrophe hit them with the tropical storm “Grace”.
A three-person team left for the disaster area on Thursday to provide help together with the local partners.
“We are in constant contact with our partners, but also with the coordinating authorities.
We will support the people with everything in our power, ”explains Peter.
For example, the coordination team has a so-called Paul water backpack with them, with which drinking water can be freed from impurities and made available to the people in the affected regions.
Humedica is also sending personal protective equipment and a medical kit to Haiti, with which, among other things, injured people can receive first aid.
In preparation for a second medical team, the emergency services will get a more detailed picture of the situation on site and assess what help people need most urgently after the first quick help.
