Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed his regret at the Saudi regime's decision to recall its ambassador to Lebanon for consultations and asked the Lebanese ambassador to leave.
Today, the Lebanese National News Agency quoted Mikati as saying, "We stressed in the ministerial statement that one of our government's priorities is to work on restoring historical ties and ties between Lebanon and its Arab brothers."
Mikati called on the Saudi regime to "reconsider" its measures taken against Lebanon, stressing the importance of "preserving Arab cohesion in these delicate circumstances that our countries and peoples live in."
For his part, the Lebanese Foreign Minister, Abdullah Bou Habib, announced that he will head a special cell to “heal the rifts and overcome the dispute” with Riyadh in coordination and consultation with the President of the Republic and the Lebanese Prime Minister following the procedures of the Saudi regime, considering that “what happens is a problem, not a crisis.”
The Saudi regime decided earlier today to recall its ambassador in Lebanon for consultations and asked the Lebanese ambassador in Riyadh to leave within 48 hours, and also stopped Saudi imports from Lebanon.
The Saudi regime had protested against old statements made by the Lebanese Minister of Information, George Qardahi, before assigning him to his post, in which he demanded to stop the war waged by the Saudi regime on Yemen, describing it as aggression.
