A 55-year-old man died in a bullfight during a festival in eastern Spain, local authorities in the town of Onda in the province of Castillon said today (Sunday).
Following the incident, which occurred yesterday, the continuation of the annual race was stopped.
Local news site Levante reported that the man, who was hit in the leg, was taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life.
This is the first known death in bull racing in Spain since the resumption of festivals in many cities across the country that have been halted throughout the corona plague.
Despite casualties from time to time and growing opposition from animal welfare organizations, bull or cow racing has remained a popular tradition in Spain.
Two other people were injured during another race in another town.
