then Ségolène Royal, by joking about her
"back-pedaling"
and by summoning her to withdraw in favor, at the choice, of Jean-Luc Mélenchon or by Yannick Jadot.
The day after her call for a unique incarnation of the left, Anne Hidalgo finds herself more weakened and more isolated at the same time.

On paper, the offer of the mayor of Paris is far from incongruous.
The plurality of candidatures is not in itself the problem: the left managed to win the presidential election in 1981 with four contenders (not counting the extreme left) and did not even manage to qualify in the second round with only two representatives. (Mélenchon and Hamon) in 2017. But with a cumulative total capping at 25% in the polls, it is a fact that the dispersion is suicidal this time.
