I am sure that from there they went directly to the situation room of another municipality, from which a reporter reported with the head of the department next to him on the "readiness" and "readiness".
But for me it's no longer an issue.
From Sunday evening we could accurately predict every word that would be said in the media about the storm hitting us hard, which was already the one that defined it by its explicit name: "rain". How can I predict? Because I'm almost 50 years old and every year - sometimes more than once - there is a storm and preparations for it, and steam on the storm and a certain flood. In the margins also, unfortunately, there is a malfunction or damage from the storm. This is how it is every year. And what still does not change is the endless amount of energy devoted to this "storm", the thousands of words and excessive preoccupation, the reporters spread out in the field with a red nose from the cold and the wind hitting their fur-clad microphones, interviews with experts, regular steamers and the electricity company. Then I ask - in your mother freezing cold: all rains and winds. What is the hysteria?
So the truth is that there are two answers to the matter. One is media net. The daily practice of the media (mostly the old one, but also the new one suffers from it), is tedious schematicism and a repetitive fixation on a regular agenda: somewhere in May a report on the "opening of the bathing season", on the eve of holidays reports of poverty and empty refrigerators alongside tons of unloaded fish In the ports, in the fall the soup festival and in the spring of the dances, with in between - one rookie swearing, knowledge of the demand for property tax payment from someone who has already died ("there is no limit to opacity") and in winter - the "storm" panic. That's how it is, and it's not going to change.
But when it comes to weather damage, there's something else here.
First, the honor of being part of the family of nations.
Here, too, we have terrible cold, as in America and Europe;
Second, excessive preoccupation with the weather is the perfect escapism.
It is a sign of normalcy, of the blessed boredom of a stable routine.
Switzerland.
The storm is on its way, the storm is delayed.
The levels have gone up, expecting a peak.
Website opened, website closed for renovations, website split.
Conversations about weather indicate both a connection to nature and its cycle and a lack of concern for matters that are man-made.
When there is nothing to talk about, talk about the weather.
Therefore, vigilant discourse on the weather has a dual role: it also puts us on the global map as a proper place, which despite its size is preoccupied with universal problems like nature and its harms, and it also creates an artificial normalcy sense of a healthy and calm country. Fine) for the expected floods, and not in the history of the conflict and the recent attack.
And above all, escapism in itself is a wonderful engine for creating an imaginary world that casts a spell on us.
That is, even when we know that our preoccupation with the weather is artificial and unnecessary, even when we are aware that the hysterical reporting we have seen from the edition is excessive and unnecessary - our very ability to produce this discourse is a bonus that makes us feel good and normal.
So have fun, beloved Israelis.
Let's go on with this endless and whispering boredom, and it will never end.
