2022-01-31T10:00:11.982Z

Totally unique, Qin Opéra, by Li Zhiwu, is presented as a drawn roll of 70 meters, reduced to 20 meters in its comic book version offered by the publisher Patayo.

To better understand the transition to the year of the Tiger, a one-of-a-kind graphic novel is in order. The work, which is called leporello, or book-accordion, comes in the form of a ribbon 70 meters long (20 meters when reduced to the size of the album). This sort of Chinese-style Bayeux tapestry retraces the life of peasants in a Chinese village faced with the arrival of modernity over a year. All adapted from a novel by Jia Pingwa published in 2005, winner of the Mao Dun prize, a sort of Chinese Goncourt. This funny scroll painted in Indian ink, secretly designed for four years on rice paper, might never have seen the light of day. In China, the album is still not published as it constitutes a criticism of the system. whatever,it took a good dose of perseverance for the publisher Laurent Mélikian to obtain the work in question and publish it in time for it to be available on the occasion of the Chinese New Year.
