Since the dissolution of the band Modern Talking, singer Thomas Anders has been on a solo path.

All information about his CV, his career, his hits and his family.

Koblenz – Thomas Anders was born on March 1, 1963 in Mörz, Rhineland-Palatinate, a district of the municipality of Münstermaifeld.

His birth certificate shows the name Bernd Weidung.

When the Palatinate decided to enter the show industry, there was a name change.

The foundations for his later career were laid during his school days.

As a student, Anders developed an affinity for music and its different varieties.

At first Thomas Anders focused on playing the piano, after his voice broke he switched to the vocal subject.

In addition to his singing activities, Anders is active as a producer, moderator and songwriter.

He lives with his family in Koblenz.

Pop singer Thomas Anders: His CV

The CV of the pop singer Thomas Anders shows the artist to be a good student who first brought his talents to the Eichendorff-Gymnasium in Koblenz.

At a young talent competition for aspiring singers, he drew attention for the first time.

Anders prevailed against more than 100 competitors and was allowed to intone a mix of hits and children's songs in the local Mosel Tanzpalast.

The lecture did not go unheeded, as the representative of a record company took notice of him and invited Anders to test recordings.

A singing performance in Michael Schanze's TV show ("Would you have time for me today?") brought Thomas Anders to the attention of the general public for the first time.

However, since the commercial breakthrough was a long time coming, Anders decided to go back to school.

First meeting with Dieter Bohlen

The announced place was the university in Mainz, where the dark-haired bard started his studies.

However, his university career ended after five semesters when Anders stopped researching musicology, journalism and German studies.

The background was a record deal that initially brought him together with genre great GG Anderson.

As a result, Thomas Anders met Dieter Bohlen for the first time, who produced three German-language songs with his new partner.

Again there was no success, which only came when the team switched to an English-language product.

Pop singer Thomas Anders: A checkered career

The actual career of pop singer Thomas Anders picked up speed through the cooperation with Dieter Bohlen.

Bohlen jumped on the then successful Eurodisco train and made Anders his sidekick.

Since Dieter Bohlen's singing talent was limited, he left the role of lead singer to Thomas Anders.

Bohlen served the background and composed the songs.

Band project name: Modern Talking.

The joint venture was crowned with success, because the first single hit like a (musical) bomb: "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" was released in January 1985 and was the first of numerous hits by the unlikely duo.

Modern Talking is born

Despite the resounding success, there were always tensions between Anders and Bohlen.

Different characters and different perceptions of music marketing kept clashing.

In favor of their careers, however, they pulled themselves together and followed a common path for around three years.

With the success, the fan community grew, which was no longer limited to Germany.

Some of the fans (and some of the press) were particularly offended by an oversized gold chain that Thomas Anders wore around his neck at the beginning of Modern Talking.

The included lettering "Nora" referred to his then girlfriend Nora Balling, whom the long-haired and suntanned Thomas Anders led down the aisle in the summer of 1985.

The first separation

Dieter Bohlen also disliked the public exhibition of the private love affair.

Not least for marketing reasons, Bohlen knew only too well that a "taken" singer met with much less love from his female fans than an uncommitted one.

The projection surface is simply different.

Which didn't bother Thomas Anders, because he continued to take his love for Nora for a walk.

In December 1987 there was the first separation between Anders and Bohlen.

The differences had become too great.

In the end, they deliberately avoided each other and didn't exchange a word with each other.

Comeback of the successful duo

While Dieter Bohlen made a name for himself as a solo artist and producer in the years that followed, Thomas Anders became quiet.

His projects had only moderate success.

The pickle phase ended for Anders in 1998 when Modern Talking reunited.

Since the team had settled their disputes in the meantime, they turned off again in the direction of success.

This time Anders and Bohlen at least managed a five-year liaison before the next bang came.

Nevertheless, half a decade was commercially difficult.

The comeback album, aptly titled Back for Good, went gold and platinum in nearly 20 countries.

All tours were sold out, you were once again on (almost) everyone's lips.

Cooperation with Florian Silbereisen

After another separation in 2003, dirty laundry was washed in the tried and tested manner.

Background: In his book publication "Behind the Scenes", Dieter Bohlen was not exactly squeamish about his former stage partner.

He sued against the published internals and was legally right.

Bohlen had to black out or remove relevant passages from his book.

While Thomas Anders was successful in this endeavor, his subsequent musical projects fell far short of the successes of Modern Talking.

Until 2018, when Anders again relied on the duet strategy.

In a team with Florian Silbereisen, Thomas Anders found his way back to his old strength and landed a surprise success with the piece "She said she loves me".

Pop singer Thomas Anders: The greatest hits

Pop singer Thomas Anders' greatest hits come from the 1980s, when the Koblenz singer was part of the Modern Talking duo.

Together with Dieter Bohlen, Anders recorded a total of five number 1 hits.

The following singles should be mentioned in this context:

  • You're My Heart, You're My Soul

  • You Can Win If You Want

  • Cheri, Cheri Lady

  • Brother Louie

  • Atlantis Is Calling (SOS For Love)

As a solo artist, Thomas Anders failed to achieve similar success.

It was only when he went into the studio with fellow singer Florian Silbereisen that the product presented attracted commercial attention.

Which again suggests that Thomas Anders works better in a duet than solo.

126 million records sold support this thesis.

Pop singer Thomas Anders: discography

The discography of the solo pop singer Thomas Anders shows 16 albums for the Palatinate to date.

Seven of them were not able to place in the top 100 of the sales charts in Germany, Switzerland or Austria.

The albums "Pure Life" (2017) and "Ewig mit Dir" (2018) went relatively well.

The latter peaked at number 12 in Germany.

The predecessor made it to rank 14.

It is all the more astonishing that Thomas Anders achieved another number 1 success in 2020.

The long player "Das Album", released on June 5, 2020, catapulted Anders and his co-singer Florian Silbereisen to the top of the charts.

The included party and mood songs topped the charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

A corresponding successor is in the starting blocks.

Pop singer Thomas Anders: His family

The family of pop singer Thomas Anders includes three people.

In addition to Anders, this includes his wife Claudia Hess and his son Alexander Mick Weidung.

The couple married in 2000 and had children two years later.

The family lives scandal-free in Koblenz and attaches great importance to privacy.
