A strong snow storm swept across large areas of the United States today, with warnings of its intensification in the coming days.

The Associated Press quoted the National Weather Service as saying that the snow storm that hit the southern states, specifically Texas and El Paso, as well as parts of the northeast, led to heavy snowfalls and cut off some roads, and some areas may witness a mixture of freezing rain before it turns into snow.

In turn, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the state's preparedness for this storm, indicating the possibility of canceling a number of flights until the storm clears.

The forecast comes nearly a year after a catastrophic winter storm devastated Texas' power grid and killed hundreds.
