The resignation of Chief of Staff Jamal Khachrush did not surprise anyone other than his very close surroundings, who claimed the liquidation of accounts and revenge by officials in the senior police officer who saw him as a threat to them.
But any police officer who behaved as a crook was seen in the videos, and provided contradictory explanations, would lay down the keys even before the things were made public, and express sorrow and apology to all Israeli police officers, the victim of the murder and his family.
The affair, which is yet to be studied at the academy, caused tremendous damage first and foremost to the man's plow.
But it also linked the plow of the Arab police officer, who reached the highest rank, was a role model for many of his subordinates, paved the way for the government and the state in terms of police relations with Arab society, and shared the most secret secrets of the police and involved in most sensitive proceedings.
Khachrush, who represents the Arab citizen who wants to integrate into the country anywhere and anytime, enlisted in the police 44 years ago, and was among the few Arabs who were willing to take on the big challenge.
This affected other members of his family, who today are senior police officers.
Khachrush tried to help and assist anyone who asked, even as an officer at the beginning of his career.
He made great efforts, especially in the frictions and confrontations that took place between the police forces and the Arab public.
He acted behind the scenes to prevent a flare-up on the ground, maintained particularly close contact with the heads of the Arab authorities, and tried in every way, even without great success, to bring Arab society closer to the Israeli police.
He was among the first to conceive of the idea of recruiting young Arabs as part of their integration into the country, and it was clear from this that in all his roles in the police, especially the latter, he more represented the police vis-à-vis the sector, than the police sector.
More than once he was assigned the mission of the apostle, and does not make the decisions.
The police apparatus has often tightened the conditions for the admission of young Arabs, along with the fact that the police still suffer from a negative image among the Arab public.
This is mainly due to the fact that any encounter or friction between the Arab citizen and the police can lead to a confrontation, not to mention the difficult picture, very deeply etched in the mind of the Arab citizen, who sees the police as coming to destroy his house. And not destroy itself.
Chief Khachrush's career in the police is complete, but his presence in the public arena is not complete, and it will intensify.
It is not far off the day when we will meet Khachrush in national politics.
Because the man loves the field, and in the eyes of quite a few parties - he can be an important electoral asset.
