Authorities at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia, tweeted that "an individual is in police custody. Situation continues," after reports of a possible attacker on campus.
According to the university, a shelter in place order for the campus is still in place, but the city of Harrisonburg said the order around the university has been lifted.
The university said Tuesday afternoon that police officers are moving through the buildings.
"For additional security purposes, law enforcement officers will be moving through the buildings. Do not be alarmed. Listen to the instructions of the police officers," the university tweeted.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also said he was briefed on the situation.
"I was briefed on the situation at Bridgewater College," Youngkin tweeted from his account.
"The attacker is in custody and state and local police are on scene."
