Roseline Hamel: “Father Hamel’s assassination is nameless suffering”

PORTRAIT – To overcome her pain, the sister of Father Jacques Hamel multiplies meetings and testimonies. Following in her brother's footsteps, she seeks answers to his incomprehension and anger.


First, there was the pain, absolute, overwhelming.

To the Pope, who receives her a few days after the assassination of Father Jacques Hamel by two terrorists in Saint-Etienne du Rouvray, her sister Roseline asks, like a plea:

"How am I going to be able to stand up after such an injustice?"

The Holy Father then takes his hands.

“Rest assured that you will be in my prayers, and that you will find the energy to continue

”.

So, for the next five years, Roseline Hamel never stopped testifying to keep her brother's memory alive.

At the age of 80, she continues to speak during masses, tirelessly receives journalists, and has published a book "

As the trial for the assassination of Father Hamel opens on Monday, his sister Roseline pursues a quest: to give meaning to the tragedy of fate.
