The Ministry of Transport is working to increase the activation of trains transporting passengers and trips through them, especially in the coastal region, in order to enhance the movement of transport, reduce congestion and material burdens on citizens and facilitate their movement between governorates and city centers.
Engineer Ibrahim Khadro, Director of Movement and Transport at the Syrian Railways General Corporation, stated in a statement to SANA that the corporation is increasing the number of passenger train cars to match the high demand for travel there, as the number of passengers in the days preceding a “holiday” on the Lattakia-Tartous route reaches only to About 2500 passengers.
Khadro indicated that passenger trains are operated on a daily basis, except on Fridays and official holidays, between the governorates of Lattakia and Tartous, passing through the stations of “Al-Ruwaiseh – Marka – Baniyas – Jableh – Sherbet” located on the path of this line to serve citizens, especially students and employees, in addition to running passenger trains on the “Aleppo” axis. - Jibreen".
During the past year, 465,813 passengers were transported on the Tartous-Lattakia axis by trains, at a rate of 6 trips per day, except for Fridays, Saturdays and official holidays, while the number of passengers transported on the Aleppo-Jibreen axis during the same period amounted to more than 200 thousand passengers, an increase of 76 percent than what was transported. During the year 2020, an average of 4 trips per day, excluding holidays.
Khadro explained that the prices of flight tickets are reasonable and encouraging, ranging from 100 to 600 Syrian pounds, and that there is a monthly subscription for transportation that does not exceed 17 thousand Syrian pounds, with large discounts being granted to many segments of passengers ranging from 20
Up to 50 percent for students, military personnel, families of martyrs and people with disabilities, and for group trips, indicating that monthly subscription cards can be obtained from the directorates of the Foundation's branches in the governorates.
Khadro pointed out that at the beginning of this year, the Al-Sun station was opened for trains located between Jableh and Baniyas stations in response to the desire and needs of citizens in the areas near the station, pointing out that the timings of the trips suit the largest segment of citizens, as two flights depart from Tartous and one from Latakia in the morning to serve employees and students. University and return in the afternoon, as well as between Aleppo and Jibrin, where a flight departs in the early morning from Aleppo and returns from Jibreen upon its arrival, and in the afternoon a flight departs on the same line to secure the return of the passengers.
