A direct line connects the May 2021 riots in the mixed cities to the recent chaos in the Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood, or by its common name, Sheikh Jarrah.

These are not just the threats of Hamas, then and now, and not just the aura that anti-Israel elements are building around the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, as the new incinerator of the Middle East.

The direct line is in the treatment of the law authorities in the State of Israel and in the handling of nationalist events within the Green Line, and on this issue it seems that the situation has not only not improved - but has deteriorated.

The vehicle, the resident of the neighborhood, Tal Yashubiev, was set on fire nine times.

He was physically assaulted on the street, pepper spray was sprayed on him, and twice before, Molotov cocktails were thrown at the family home in order to set them on fire and burn them.

Last Friday they succeeded.

The one-month-old baby's room was on fire, and the family survived only because she was not home that weekend.

The Yeshuviev family begged the police to help them, shouted at every means at their disposal, turned to the media, Knesset members, ministers - and nothing.

No one cared.

Too many words have been written about MK Itamar Ben Gvir and the transfer of his bureau, but one thing is quite clear: before he arrived in the neighborhood, the state and the police tweeted about the residents and their security. The Ben Gvir, but they should come in complaints only to themselves, for they are the ones who have in deeds established the contemptuous and promiscuous attitude of the authorities.

Here too, as in May 2021, Arab rioters burned vehicles and houses to Jews and physically attacked them.

Here, too, like in May, Jews begged for the help of the police and they just did not come.

Here, too, like in May, they restricted the Jews who tried to defend themselves, while underestimating the sound of their cry and the intensity of the attack on them.

Here, too, as in May, the Jews who came to help were portrayed as agitating provocateurs, as those who came to disturb the authorities, when in practice they cried out to the authorities who simply did not come, until there was no choice and they came themselves to help.

Here too, as in May, the message of the authorities was not sovereignty and security, but only public silence at all costs.

A Jew whose car is burned - that's fine, only he does not dare to return or resent.

And here, too, the hidden message of state authorities is: no Jews - no terrorist attacks.

Here, too, as in May, the state began to assist only after the citizens arrived.

And why?

Because she was afraid of an explosion.

Proof of this is that about a month ago they tried to set fire to the family home, and the investigation that was opened was closed within four days.

And here, after civilians came to help and a riot broke out, the authorities involved the GSS and seized the lighters within two days. When they want, they can.

May 2021 will be burned into the public and historical consciousness as one in which the State of Israel has abandoned its own citizens.

Anyone who believes in the state and its institutions must do everything in its power so that the disturbances of the Arabs' disruption to the Jews, as we saw in May, do not return.

The patterns of action we are seeing recently in Jerusalem, in the Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood, are a retransmission of the functioning of the authorities in the riots, and this is very bad news.
