“I lived in shame”: when the victims of incest break the silence

2022-02-17T19:25:42.961Z

TESTIMONIALS – The Independent Commission on Incest held its fifth public meeting on Wednesday in Paris.

A torrent of words.

Crude, violent, powerful words to tell the unspeakable.

Incest, this crime of silence, is said aloud in public meetings organized by the Ciivise (Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence against Children).

After Nantes, Avignon, Bordeaux and Lille, it was Paris which welcomed, on Wednesday evening, 200 people who came to tell the story of the violence they suffered.

In the large Art Deco hall of the Palais de la femme, Anna (1) raises her hand.

They hand him a microphone.

This white-haired sexagenarian prefers to remain seated to unfold, in a slow and calm voice, her moving story.

Raped by her father at the age of 8, she wanted to speak in public to

“get out of the family camera”.

She does it

“in memory of the little girl that I was”

and in connection

“with all the silent children”

.

“A part of me died there.

Yes, incest is a crime.

It is a work of death”

, she says.
