Brussels-Sana
The European Union officially announced today the imposition of sanctions against Russia, following the example of the United States, against the backdrop of Moscow's recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.
"Its council adopted a set of measures in response to the Russian Federation's decision to recognize lands not under government control in Ukraine's Donetsk and Lugansk regions as independent entities and the subsequent decision to send troops there," according to the agency, "Sputnik".
The sanctions include 351 Russian parliamentarians and 27 individuals and entities.
The US and British governments announced earlier imposing sanctions on Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed on February 21 two decrees stipulating Moscow's recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics from Ukraine.
